[Interview E03] Solving eye tracking issues with AmblyoPlay

Girl performing vision therapy

We are continuing with the interview series. This time, our interviewee is Heidi, a mother of a girl that experienced tracking issues. They solved eye tracking issues with a combination of different approaches, including AmblyoPlay. During the usage of software, they noticed significant improvements in her eye’s ability to track movement and maintain focus. If you have missed previous interviews, check them out here.

How did you find about AmblyoPlay vision therapy?

We found out about AmblyoPlay through the doctor we are seeing for our daughter’s vision therapy.

Can you summarize the condition your child is experiencing? Did you take any previous approaches to treat the condition, and if so, which ones?

Our daughter has experienced some tracking issues with her right eye, which hadn’t seemed to go away. I had contacted a naturopath to see if that might be an avenue to help support and improve her eye situation. The naturopath recommended the eye doc that we are seeing now for vision therapy, who has been really great. We also got her in and checked out with an ophthalmologist, who prescribed her a prescription for lenses after determining the vision was significantly different in her right eye. And after another visit with the ophthalmologist we have been patching her stronger left eye each day to help improve the vision in the right eye.

What was the progress and were your expectations met?

The patching has been difficult often, but is more part of our daily routine now. The vision therapy has yielded some good results in conjunction with the AmblyoPlay. So hard to say what has improved the right eye and to what degree. I assume each portion has hopefully played a part in the improvement of her right eye. My hopes are that she would be able to not wear glasses in the near future and that her amblyopia could be fixed/remedied. And, I’m not sure if these things are on the horizon, it is my deepest hope and wish for my child’s precious vision. The ophthalmologist said that everything was healthy, when they dilated and did her eye exam initially, over a year ago now. And in a month or so they will dilate and hope to have gained significant improvement and have a much lower lens prescription! All the evaluation in recent times has shown much improvement in her right eye, each time we have been back to either of the doctors she is seeing.

Do you think that motivation is an important aspect for children to perform vision therapy? Do you feel that AmblyoPlay, in its form, increases compliance in comparison with other vision therapy approaches?

I do feel that the form of vision therapy is important especially for small children. I do think the AmblyoPlay is very unique in its approach. Also, I think it is very tailored for each individual situation, which is great! I think children find it interesting and fun, but it still is a commitment, although not of great time duration, but still must be planned into our daily activities.

What was your child’s favorite game to play?

She has enjoyed many of the programs/modules, some more than others. She likes the cars game, and the new tiles game that has been added. But I think some of the allure is the improvement and mastery, and the increasing skill and scoring. Also, having the chance to upgrade characters and their worlds is very fun through the eyes of a young child.

We are always open to any suggestions and comments, so we would really appreciate your feedback.

It has been a great program, and we are thankful to have found this. The timing has been good also. We have experienced some challenges with the technology with a Microsoft surface that has had some inherent bugs with the program function. Also, we tried on a MacBook Pro, but believe the current operating system was not new enough to be compatible with the AmblyoPlay. Overall, it has been a nice and uplifting experience. The support from the company is worth mentioning for sure.

We would like to thank Heidi for taking the time to share her daughter’s experience. Based on this story, we can help individuals with similar conditions to find the best treatment for themselves.

We invite you, our community, to share your experience with AmblyoPlay. If you are interested for an interview, we would invite you to send an email to [email protected]. Furthermore, we are available at this address for any questions related to this topic.
